Viking Inventions
The Comb
The Vikings supposedly invented the first comb and it is something that will still use today. They were used by men more than women and used them when they had unkempt hair. The combs were originally made out of antlers when the animal they killed had no use for antlers because the Vikings would use every last piece of the carcass so they would not waste it.
The Magnetic Compass
Vikings had a lot of magnetite in their homeland of Norway. They eventually found out about the magnetic field so they put magnetite to use. Some christians called it "witchcraft" but the vikings didn't because they had lots of gods and not just God or Jesus. The vikings put this invention to use and used it to navigate overseas.
Spectacles
The Vikings actually invented spectacles or glasses from crushed rock dust. Rather than for eyesight spectacles were used for jewelry and fashion. Archeologists found artifacts of spectacles in archeological sites in Sweden. This was a huge breakthrough for the world this early on.
